Abdul Ahmed Ningi, born on April 20, 1960, is a notable figure in Nigerian politics, previously serving as the Deputy Majority Leader of the Nigerian Senate. He represented the Bauchi Central senatorial district from 2011 to 2015 as a member of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP). His senatorial zone encompasses the local government areas of Danbam, Darazo, Ganjuwa, Misau, Ningi, and Warji.
Ningi’s early life in Ningi town, Bauchi state, was humble, with childhood responsibilities including farming work and fetching water for his family. He attended Ningi East primary school and later graduated from Government Secondary School, Misau in 1978. Pursuing higher education, he completed a pre-degree program at Bauchi College of Art and Sciences and then earned a B.Sc. in Sociology from Ahmadu Bello University in 1983, marking a family milestone as the first university graduate.
After graduation, Ningi served in Kano during his National Youth Service and subsequently joined the Bauchi state government as a Social welfare officer. His career progressed rapidly, leading to roles at Bauchi Rent Tribunal, First Bank of Nigeria, Hi-Tech computers, and finally as the Chairman and Chief Executive of NAJ Resources Ltd., Bauchi.
Ningi’s political journey began in 1996 when he ran for the Bauchi state assembly under the United Nigeria Congress Party (UNCP). Although his initial election was annulled, he persevered and was elected to represent the Ningi Federal constituency in the House of Representatives in 1999, serving until 2011. His tenure included multiple committee chairmanships and involvement in significant national issues like the Third Term Agenda.
Transitioning to the Senate in 2011, Ningi defeated the incumbent senator in the elections and was appointed Deputy Majority Leader, playing a pivotal role in the Senate’s activities.
Throughout his tenure, Ningi prioritized constituency development. His initiatives spanned job creation, farming support, and community development. He facilitated employment programs, supported agricultural activities, and implemented infrastructural projects like boreholes and water reticulation systems. His efforts in poverty eradication included donating vehicles, motorcycles, and sewing machines to aid transportation and livelihoods. Educationally, he made significant contributions through equipment donations, construction of ICT centers, and a scholarship scheme.
Ningi’s comprehensive approach to leadership and dedication to his constituency’s development reflect his commitment to public service and community upliftment.
